Larry Ellison cancels plan to sell $7.5 billion in Oracle shares

Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has canceled a plan to sell part of his stake in the company. Oracle issued an official statement on September 12, 2026. Ellison is the company’s executive chairman and chief technology officer.

The plan covered up to 50 million shares

According to Reuters, Ellison planned to sell up to 50 million Oracle shares. At the closing price on September 11, they were worth approximately $7.5 billion.

The trading plan was adopted on June 22 and was due to run until October 24. Its cancellation does not mean shares were sold and later bought back: Oracle said no sales took place under this particular plan.

No reason was disclosed

The statement also said Ellison has no other plan to sell Oracle shares. It did not explain why the earlier decision had changed.

The announcement therefore provides insufficient information to link the decision to any particular investment or personal expense.
