Expanse raises $5.3 million to predict AI computing needs
Expanse raised $5.3 million in seed funding to develop a platform that forecasts the GPU, CPU, memory and time required before an AI task runs.
Expanse, which operates in the US and the UK, aims to size computing resources correctly before a task runs rather than analyzing them afterward. Crane Venture Partners led the new round.
Funding details
Expanse announced its $5.3 million seed round on September 16, 2026. Led by Crane Venture Partners, the financing also included PXN Ventures and angel investors with AI infrastructure experience.
The funds will support product development, expansion of the engineering team and stronger engagement with existing customers.
How does the product work?
Before launching an AI task, engineers estimate how much GPU, CPU, RAM and time it will require. Incorrect estimates can leave expensive resources idle or cause the task to fail.
Expanse’s software analyzes workloads in advance and recommends an appropriate resource configuration. The company says the solution can be deployed in the cloud or on a customer’s own infrastructure, with code and telemetry staying inside that environment.
Team and limits of the evidence
University of Edinburgh graduates Ismaeel Bashir, Nikodem Bieniek, Eren Mendi and Yafet Melake founded the startup. The team previously worked on high-performance computing infrastructure and at supercomputing centers.
The company claims it identified nearly $8 million in unused computing capacity for one customer over a month. This is an individual case reported by the company, not a guarantee of equivalent savings for all customers.
