Mombak targets $150 million for Amazon reforestation fund

Brazilian startup Mombak secured the first close of its second restoration fund and signed a multiyear carbon-credit agreement with Salesforce.

Mombak targets $150 million for Amazon reforestation fund

Mombak said on September 21 that it had secured the first close of Amazon Reforestation Fund II. The fund targets $150 million and will also have access to a credit line of up to 200 million reais from Brazil’s Climate Fund.

The fund and the credit line are different pools

Amazon Reforestation Fund II aims to raise $150 million in investor capital. Separately, Brazil’s Climate Fund, operated by BNDES, will provide a 200 million-real credit line, approximately $38.88 million at the exchange rate cited in the announcement.

A first close does not mean the fund has already raised the full $150 million. The amount of investor capital committed at the first stage was not disclosed.

Salesforce became a new buyer

Mombak signed a multiyear carbon-removal credit purchase agreement with Salesforce. The volume and price were not disclosed. The company’s other buyers include Google, Microsoft and McLaren Racing.

Mombak says its first $120 million fund financed the planting of nearly 15 million native trees across 15 Amazon farms. It expects a second issuance of roughly 80,000 metric tons by the end of 2026; this is a forecast, not a completed issuance.
